¿Frequently
Asked Questions?

Do you have a catalogue?
Yes we do, more of a broad outline than a
strictly accurate listing of all we have in stock, but it's too big to publish here!
We revise it about once a year. If you are reading this site, then it's
easier to send us an email asking if we have what you need! Because of increased
number of pages, extra printing and postage costs we will now have to charge 1 pound per
copy. For UK customers please send a £1 coin with your address. Overseas customers please
send two international reply coupons (IRC).
What are your prices?
In order to simplify things we price valves
by their valve-base type. Special valves such as output valves, tuning indicators,
transmitting and audio types have individual pricing. But for general purpose types, see
our Price List. For convenience of web surfers, this web site
gives prices in US dollars, except where specified. But we usually trade in Pounds
Sterling - divide $ prices by 1.6 to get the approximate price in pounds.
How do I pay?
with your order please!
UK customers: Credit Card or cheque
drawn on UK clearing bank.
Other customers: Credit card or International
Money Order in pounds (GBP)
We never present a cheque until we have dispatched your valves.
Credit
cards?
We accept MasterCard or VISA only. No debit
cards. We can only ship goods to the cardholder's statement address.
How do you ship?
Normally by parcel post or airmail.
Shipping method for large consignments (such as airfreight) is agreed with customer
beforehand. We will always quote you the shipping cost. The typical cost of a
few valves to Far East or Australasia is $40, USA $25, Europe $15.
Do you test all your valves?
We always test used valves, we normally don't
test NOS unless you ask us to (and we might then make a small charge!). But we do
physically inspect NOS to make sure that the valve looks new and unused.
Matching?
We can match pairs, quads or even octets of
output valves (providing we have enough of them). The cost is $7 per pair extra - we
will quote for quads and octets. Matching is done on the AVO VCM163 tester, usually
at fixed bias and with a match considered to be +/- 5% Gm and Ia.
Equivalents?
Because of the limited supplies of many of the popular
valves it may be necessary to supply equivalents from time to time. For example, we
have good stocks of British military types (CVs or VRs) which can be supplied instead of
their commercial equivalents. If you cannot accept an equivalent, please tell us
when you order.
Boxes?
Many of the NOS valves are more than 50 years old, and
so the original boxes are often in poor condition. We will endeavour to ship the
valve in its original box but it may be necessary to package NOS valves in plain white
boxes. Used tested valves are supplied in white boxes with a label stating test
results and date of test.
Manufacturer?
Unless specifically requested, we will supply valves from
whichever manufacturer we have in stock. With more modern valves, the country of
origin is not always defined as many state 'Foreign Made'.
Valveholders?
Yes we have some. Send us an
enquiry or look at the price list.
Do you have other components?
Yes from time to time we have transformers, resistors, etc., the
usual things that turn up.
Isle of Wight - where's
that?
We are about 4 miles offshore from the south coast of England.
The Island's Tourist Board has
some beautiful photo's. |
